Halloween + Dogs = Match Made in Heaven

Halloween is only ONE day away, and with that, I thought I’d offer up some awesome Halloween survey results that I found while browsing around the world wide web.  I always thought and assumed that of all Holidays, Halloween was one of the biggest when it comes to pet participation, and after seeing some of these results, my assumptions were confirmed!

If you’re anything like me, you might be a little hesitant to actually dress your dog up, opting instead for a Halloween inspired scarf or bandanna, but it appears that we’re in the minority!  Check out the results of a survey done on Dogster.com:

“* 65% of dog owners will be including their pooches in Halloween festivities this year.
* 40% have definite plans to dress up their dogs.
* 72% of those dressing up their dogs will be buying their outfits rather than making them at home.
* 46% percent think the coolest costume last year was Captain Jack Sparrow from Pirates of the Caribbean.
* 43% say their pets resent wearing costumes.
* 19% of dog owners say their pets love getting gussied up for Halloween-the more outrageous the outfit, the better.”

My favorite little fact is that while 40% of us are going to dress our poochs’ up for Halloween, 43% of us believe that our pets resent actually wearing them!  Hilarious.  Whatever the case may be, you have only one day left to pick out your dog costumes, get them all dressed up, get the dog-safe treat bowls filled and prepare yourself for the festivities!

Halloween Is On The Way: Dog Costumes!

The countdown has officially begun:  Only 9 days left until one of the best holidays of the year for all of us that love making our dogs even cuter than they already are.  If you’ve never put a costume on your dog, NOW is the time to start.  If you are a seasoned veteran when it comes to Dog Costumes, maybe now is the year you turn it all around, and make your dog the best dressed pooch on the block.  Trust me, people see a dog in a costume and instantly the holiday is better.

So, without further ado, here are a few of my favorite dog costumes I dug up.  My personal favorites are probably the superhero costumes, but I have a very warm and special place in my heart for the Hippie.  Which do you like the most?  Whichever you choose, head over and start shopping, only 9 days left!

Halloween Costume Ideas for Small Dogs

There’s nothing more fun than dressing up your pooch and what better time to do it than Halloween? I love to dress up my dog every year in different costumes, but it seems the small dogs beat the big dogs once again. There is a larger variety of costumes for small dogs and they’re just so cute, take a look for yourself.

Weiner Dog Costume

I think this hotdog costume would be great on a weiner dog.

Your dog will say “Arrgh!” in this adorable pirate costume.

Dog Costume Craze

dorothy dog costume

Cute or crazy? As much as I’d like to say that dressing your dog in costume is koo-koo, I have to admit this picture makes me smile. And apparently I’m not the only one. Dog costumes are becoming common household items. How do I know this? You can buy them at Target.

The most popular costume for dogs according to one study is the devil, followed closely by a pumkin and a witch. I think there’s some room for creativity here. What about political figures? Or popular musicians like Willy Nelson or Bono? You and your pooch could go out together as the Midnight Cowboy and Rizzo. Think about it. You could start shopping for Halloween online right now or put on your thinking cap and get creative.

Customized Dog Greeting Cards

tough dog

Have you met Zelda? She’s the star modella for Zelda’s Wisdom. Zelda was first discovered when she won a local greeting card contest. Since then, her popularity has grown, especially with men, which has enabled her to get a contract with Hallmark greeting cards. But you can still get your own customized cards online. There are dozens of different Zelda shots and captions to choose from. They even have a mailing service to make sending that little bit of humour even easier. Other gifts are available too like books, mouse pads, and calendars. If you love bulldogs or you just want a cheerful, unique card for a friend - check out Zelda.

Dog wigs that will make you wig out!

When I heard from fellow coworker and dog lover that I had to check out Wiggles Dog Wigs, and that I better shut my office door because I am going to laugh so hard that I’ll cry, I didn’t believe the person. I was wrong.

The pug with the comb over worse than my dad’s Sunday hair do (sorry pops), the rasta dog that only needs some Bob Marley “Buffalo Soldier” in the background to complete the scene, and the pretty princess trying her best to copy a Marilyn Monroe look all but sent me over the top.

And if this wasn’t enough, Ruth Regina from Wiggles Dog Wigs has a YouTube clip from the Dave Letterman show that it just outrageous…check it out at this link.

How a dog can wear a wig is just beside me…I don’t think a dog would get low self esteem if its hair turned gray or wasn’t as full as in its hay day. Again, this really seems to be a topic where the owner wants to bling out Sparky or Lola.

Question for my readers…if you had to get a wig for your dog, would it:

A.) be a hair style you are currently sporting

B.) be a style you wish you wanted, but could never get away with

C.) be a conservative and classic look

D.) be a hippy and liberal look, ya man we jammin’

Seeing that my hair is thinning these days, I’d go for the comb over look for Sparky, since perhaps if he got some ladies with it, it means my best dog days could still be ahead of me…
